More and more businesses are creating contents and everyone is trying to stay on top of their game. However, what happens when you experience writer’s block or when you run out of blog post ideas? Writers block is real! Professional bloggers and content writers experience it not to talk of amateurs like me. There are days when all inspiration is lost and everything just feels blank and you run out of blog post ideas. What do you do when this happens? Do you quit writing or do you start looking for ways to get unstuck and prepare yourself to produce and publish a lot of fresh contents?
Scroll below to see how bloggers are staying on top their blogging game:
1. Make Research
Do this by seeking inspirations from different blogs in your niche. Read posts on the current and trending topics and make sure they are relevant to your niche. Another tip here is to read magazines that are related to your niche and learn from their works. Magazines writers and editors are professionals and they know what title will catch people’s eyes and entice them to read their articles. Follow their techniques and never run out of blog post ideas. Avoid plagiarism (you can drop source or back links if you want to quote someone’s page).
2. Go to New Places
Visit places that you haven’t visited before and write posts or reviews on them. Top on my list are art galleries and those popular hangout spots in Lagos. You can visit parks and take in your surroundings because you never know what might inspire you. You do not need a laptop or a phone here. A note-book or a note pad and a pen will do just fine. Jot down new ideas in a draft-like manner.
3. Interviews/ Guest Posts
Invite other bloggers to do a guest post on your blog. This is another important way to avoid running out of blog post ideas. It is also a great means of generating traffic to your blog. They write on topics that are informative and entertaining on your blog and this gesture can be swapped. Also, interviewing your favourite bloggers or celebrities can make you have contents to deliver to your audience.
4. Ask Your Readers
Ask your readers what they would love to read next on the blog. This can be done by creating a poll on your Instastories, Facebook stories, Instagram feed, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube and many more as long as you have a loyal audience. You can also write an open letter to one of your readers/subscribers to show your appreciation.
5. Create an Editorial Calendar
Creating an editorial calendar means planning your blog posts before hand and it helps in avoiding writers block. The idea of already drafting future posts even if it’s just the title gets me excited to develop contents on it. Editorial calendars are of two types (offline and online). You can either buy a blog planner or simply create one by installing the WordPress Editorial Calendar Plugin. When using this, you get to document what to post, when to post it and what style to follow when drafting the post.
6. Visit Old Posts
Who else reads old posts on their blogs? Sometimes, when I read them I laugh at how much I’ve improved especially with SEO, blog photos and relevance. Read old posts and update them by making another post while referring your readers to that old post.
7. Social Media
Get on social media for inspiration. Instagram is great but have you tried Pinterest before? If you haven’t, please just close the Instagram app (it gives one anxiety really) and get on Pinterest for great blog post ideas.
